Research and Special Grants

The Foundation retains a small funding stream to provide a limited number of grants for special circumstances - where an agency faced an unexpected situation, or event, that needed short-term financial support to overcome.

This category also encompassed one-off grants outside of core criteria, where the Board consider them of particular merit, as well as grants for research and a contribution to the annual Andy Ludlow Awards. This awards scheme operates in co-sponsorship with London Councils (formerly the ALG), Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) and Shelter and makes annual awards to projects selected for their innovation and good practice in tackling homelessness. Overall winner of the 2006 awards was Look Ahead Housing and Care’s 'Customer Involvement Programme' which provides homeless people with training to enable them to become active participants in shaping and developing Look Ahead’s service. The skills they learn are also designed to help them improve their quality of life through finding work and a permanent home. Awards were also made to: Cardboard Citizens, East Thames Group and Single Homeless Project.
