Providence Row

Description of organisation
Providence Row Charity was established in the East End of London in 1860. It is a registered charity founded on Christian values and this mission continues today with the support of the Sisters of Mercy. The Charity provides a range of advice, counselling, art, outreach and other services. It also runs a large day centre in the East End. In addition, the Charity works alongside Providence Row Housing Association to provide a range of supported housing services to single people, including those with an alcohol dependency.

Purpose of the grant
The LHF's grant has been used to develop a comprehensive understanding of key working models for clients who have been long-term street drinkers. In addition, the grant has helped facilitate a process of change within Edward Gibbons House. The work will culminate in a conference and working papers aimed at practitioners working with this client group elsewhere.

Outcomes/results of activities funded with the grant
The outcomes have included a framework of templates for key working in Edward Gibbons House; management development tools for the manager at Edward Gibbons House around team work, and the development of the hostel's mission. There will also be a report to internal senior managers and a paper for the forthcoming conference.
