The London Housing Foundation will meet the costs of this programme. These costs include those for designing and facilitating the programme, meeting rooms, lunch and other refreshments. There may also be the opportunity for an ALS to obtain funding to commission information gathering between meetings that will help with their programme. Participant organisations will meet travel costs and any costs of providing stand-in cover for individuals participating.
We are aware, however, that not charging for development opportunities sometimes reduces commitment and attendance. This could reduce the benefit for other members of the set, as well as being unfair to those that cannot be found places. As a result, we will ask for a contribution of £250 towards the cost for any ALS participant who fails to attend two or more meetings of the group, unless there are exceptional reasons.
Participation in other action learning sets
Action learning sets are becoming a recognised way of developing leadership and management potential and a number of organisations and consultants facilitate cross-sectoral or other specialist sets. It will be possible for individuals working in homelessness agencies in London to apply to participate in other ALSs – or to indicate a preference to join a cross-sectoral set. In approved cases we may help to identify an appropriate set and will cover participation costs, excluding travel expenses.
Participation of non-London or non-homelessness agencies
This programme is targeted at agencies tackling single homelessness in London. However, we realise that sets may be strengthened by the participation of individuals working in homelessness outside of London or in other parts of the voluntary or statutory sectors. We would be willing, therefore, to hear from people in these categories who are interested in joining an ALS under this programme. We cannot guarantee that it will be possible to provide a place, but we will treat each application sympathetically. In such cases costs will be covered on the same basis as for other participants.
