The London Housing Foundation is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year and is marking the
occasion in a number of ways. One of these is a special prize that it has added to the 2011
Andy Ludlow Awards.
The Foundation has been a major sponsor of the Ludlow Awards since their
inception and, with this one-off prize, the Foundation's board awarded £15,000 to the project or organisation which it judged to have made best use of
volunteers.
Upper Room agency won the award for its UR4Driving project, receiving a trophy and £15,000 at an event to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Foundation at City Hall on 18th October.
As the standard was so high, a further prize of £2,500 was awarded to Thames Reach for its vital Street Rescue service, which uses 150 volunteers to help rough sleepers off the streets.
The judges considered the following:
• The number of volunteers employed in relation to the number of paid staff
• Imaginative or innovative roles for volunteers
• Training and development of volunteers
• Planning for the evolution of volunteer roles
• Interesting and innovative ways of recruiting volunteers.
